A large part of what makes Camp Invention® special is that each summer’s experience is always different from the year that came before. In creating the flagship STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program from the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF), our education team embarks on an extensive development process to ensure that each year, camp offers unique and relevant STEM adventures that will inspire the next generation of innovators.
Duck Chuck is one of four adventures in the brand new 2021 Camp Invention program, Recharge. Read below to learn more about what your child can look forward to as they dive into Duck Chuck!
Innovation Takes Flight
In Duck Chuck, kids explore the power of physics while launching rubber ducks to famous landmarks around the world. Using fun materials, campers construct their very own Duck Chucking Devices! Throughout the week, they test the trajectory of various objects to increase the accuracy of their creations. Prototyping is crucial to this activity, and by continuing to modify their devices, children discover that through testing and experimentation, improvement is always possible. After designing and modifying their devices, kids create unique advertising to capture people’s attention!
This activity is also a great way for children to explore different parts of the world, incredible landmarks and wonders of nature. From the inspiring Sydney Opera House, an art institution and concert venue in Sydney, Australia, to some of the world’s tallest peaks in the majestic Himalayas, campers are introduced to amazing places across the planet.
The Innovation Mindset Difference
All activities in Camp Invention Recharge help build the Innovation Mindset: a growth mindset infused with lessons from our world-changing NIHF Inductees, which can empower children throughout their lives.
Duck Chuck focuses on three aspects of this mindset:
STEM: Introducing physics concepts like velocity and trajectory, as well as mathematics concepts, such as angles.
Entrepreneurship: Building entrepreneurship skills by taking creative risks as campers bring their inventions to market!
Creative Problem Solving: Exploring creative problem solving through modifying personalized inventions.
This mindset is made up of nine essential skills and traits developed through the open-ended, hands-on exploration that Camp Invention does best.
