Dive Into STEM Fun in Robotic Aquatics

Each year, thanks to our hard-working education team, children have the chance to enjoy an all-new experience at Camp Invention^®, the K-6 summer STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program from the National Inventors Hall of Fame^® (NIHF). Our program development and piloting process ensures that each summer offers exciting, imagination-stretching activities crafted to inspire every camper.

Robotic Aquatics^™ is one of four action-packed activities in our brand-new 2022 Camp Invention program, Explore! Read below to discover what little adventures your child can look forward to this summer.

Deep-Sea STEM Exploration

In this collaborative activity, campers have the chance to engage in social-emotional learning (SEL) while diving into high-energy, hands-on fun! They’ll express their interests and passions through marine life games, create a unique aquatic habitat and explore how some of the world’s greatest innovators work together to create inventions to help others. And they’ll do it all in a supportive environment where they have the freedom to embrace their natural curiosity and use their imaginations to solve real-world challenges.

Campers will also design and build their very own Aqua Innovation! Then they’ll each take on the role of entrepreneur and pitch their invention to their friends, once they have launched their flinging fish and landed on a target market! Through this experience, kids learn that their ideas have value and that intellectual property (IP) protections can help them market their own unique products.

Each Camp Invention activity helps children build the Innovation Mindset^™: a collection of nine skills and traits that have been shown to unlock creative potential. Developed in collaboration with our world-changing Hall of Famers, children can use and benefit from this mindset throughout their lives.

Robotic Aquatics highlights the following aspects of the Innovation Mindset:

Confidence: Children gain the confidence to speak and present in front of others as they pitch their Aqua Innovations to their fellow campers. Thanks to Camp Invention’s supportive and friendly environment, children feel safe to express themselves and, in the process, develop their creative and inventive identities.

Entrepreneurship: After brainstorming ways to influence their target market, each camper is challenged to pitch their Aqua Innovation. This provides an opportunity to practice speaking up in groups and learning to think like successful entrepreneurs. This will help them develop a skill set they can apply throughout their lives.

Intellectual Property: By learning about the different types of patents available to inventors (including plant patents), children learn about their rights as creators and see that IP protections are everywhere! By pitching their Aqua Innovations, they discover in a hands-on way how inventors use IP to both protect their creations, have them be traceable to the source, and set themselves apart from the competition.

Innovation: Inspired by lessons and stories from our Hall of Famers, as well as their specific innovations, this activity gives children the chance to create models of their own inventions to solve real-world problems. Because there are no right or wrong answers when it comes to the act of creating, here children are free to embrace their creativity in ways that are sometimes difficult to achieve in traditional learning settings.
