Every summer, the National Inventors Hall of Fame® creates exciting new experiences for our flagship program, Camp Invention®. With each experience carefully crafted to promote creativity and foster critical thinking, K-6 campers showcase their aptitude for solving complex problems and collaborating with friends, all while having a blast with STEM!
In Control™ is one of four dynamic, hands-on experiences in our all-new 2025 Camp Invention program, Discover. Keep reading to learn how your child will explore the innovative world of navigation on the ultimate STEM-inspired adventure.
Find Joy in the Journey With In Control
In this 2025 experience, campers take exploratory learning on the road. As kids embark on an innovative journey, they start experimenting with navigation by reading a map and using a compass to investigate the magnetic north.
Guided by National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductee Asad Madni, campers explore advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and discover its capabilities in everyday items such as GPS. After creating a prototype of their own AI-inspired bobblehead assistant, campers take full control as they wire a radio transmitter and receiver, designing their very own custom control panel.
Campers are challenged to invent their way around every bump and twist in the road. They’ll even learn to decode secret messages using Morse code clues! From completing a pine forest rescue mission to building a shelter in a storm, campers apply quick thinking as they encounter unexpected detours and troubleshoot real-world challenges, earning badges along the way.
Developing the I Can Invent Mindset
From technical tasks to thoughtful design, In Control offers versatile, hands-on experiences that help kids develop an innovative mindset. As campers apply the I Can Invent® Mindset, they demonstrate the following skills and traits shared by National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductees.
- STEM: Campers explore STEM concepts and learn foundational skills in electrical engineering as they practice wiring a circuit with a transmitter and receiver.
- Innovation: Children learn how to decode Morse code clues to stay connected, no matter how far they travel! As campers discover electromagnetic waves and navigation technology, they’ll learn about the ongoing innovation of communication methods.
- Creative Problem Solving: Campers practice important decision-making on their innovative journey as they assess their options and find creative solutions for road trip challenges at each stop along the way.
- Persistence: Flat tire? No problem! Campers practice quick thinking and persistence as they invent solutions for unexpected road trip detours and discover that the uncharted adventures encountered along a chosen course can be just as rewarding as reaching the final destination!
